Personal Energy Banks
How are you spending your energy dollars?
One of my current intentions, especially with this newsletter, is to commit to sending it at least bi-weekly. As someone who’s never identified as a procrastinator, motherhood has made it incredibly challenging to channel my creative energy in a structured way. If you have young children, you know how much it changes every part of how you show up. The identity shift that comes with parenting is something I’ve resisted, but the truth is, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I now see that my children are the exact teachers, challenges, and catalysts for change I needed to evolve into my next version of self. And even if you don’t have young children, I think this is part of life's journey and something we’re all feeling right now as we try to stay grounded in a world that seems to change every time you blink.
This season has made it loud and clear that my energy is finite, and most of it is consumed by the “home” category. After years of trying to increase the dollars in my energy bank, I’ve realized reallocating is more effective than trying to expand it. So, my focus right now is simplifying and systematizing the areas that matter most beyond ‘home’—career, self, relationships, and community—without spending more energy. Another piece of this is staying hyper-aware of external energy sources, or what I’m calling the “war against dopamine,” and not leveraging dopamine fixes (hello, social media, notifications, stimulants, etc.) as a solution. It's about being mindful of our energy and using it wisely, not letting it be drained by short-term fixes. From my experience, they are nothing more than a short-term fix and never a sustainable long-term solution.
As I continue building a career centered around creative expression, impact, and financial freedom, I’m reminded you can’t rush this journey. We can’t think of a way to the perfect solution. Instead, it’s about giving ourselves the time and space for trial and error to learn what we don’t want to figure out what we do want. With this newsletter/energy work and all creative projects, I view them a lot like my children. It’s my job to give them the attention and containers they need to become exactly what they were meant to be in this lifetime. And to do the work on me to ensure my shadows/blocks aren’t holding them back from their full expansion.
So, today’s newsletter is short and sweet. Why? To keep me accountable, share these reflections in the hope they resonate with you, and, most importantly, intentionally use my creative energy to evolve my business and deepen my energy work.
A Few Takeaways For You:
Reallocate Your Energy: Instead of trying to “do more” with limited energy, consider simplifying and streamlining key areas of your life to create more space for what matters most.
Embrace the Process: Don’t rush through transitions or try to think your way into solutions. Allow yourself to experiment, fail, and learn what works for you.
Build in Flexibility: As you plan and set goals, allow room for evolution. The creative process often requires both structure and flexibility, so be open to adapting as you go.
Hold Yourself Accountable: Find ways to stay disciplined with your intentions. Whether sending a bi-weekly email or dedicating time to your personal growth, consistency is key to progress.
